About Kaishore Guggulu
Kaishore Guggulu is one of the most frequently prescribed classical gugguls in modern Ayurvedic practice. Documented in Sharangdhar Samhita, it combines shuddha guggulu (purified Commiphora mukul resin) with triphala, guduchi, trikatu, vidanga and danti. The result is a tridoshic formula with particular strength in pitta-type inflammatory conditions.
Unlike yograj guggulu (which is vata-focused) and simhanad guggulu (for rheumatoid picture), kaishore guggulu is positioned for hyperuricemia-type presentations, gouty arthritis, and pitta-aggravated skin conditions like acne and eczema. The inclusion of danti (Baliospermum) gives it mild purgative action, supporting elimination-based cleansing.
It is a clinician's favourite for metabolic detox protocols — most commonly 2 tablets twice daily with warm water for 2–3 months, often combined with triphala bedtime and dietary modification.

Contraindications & Interactions
Avoid or use with caution in:
- Pregnancy (danti is mildly purgative; guggulu has uterine-stimulant properties)
- Active peptic ulcer / bleeding GI
- Severe diarrhea (danti worsens)
- Hyperthyroidism (guggulu can elevate T3/T4)
- Known guggulu hypersensitivity (rash, GI upset)
Drug interactions:
- Thyroid medications (guggulu affects thyroid — monitor)
- Anticoagulants, antiplatelets (guggulu has mild antiplatelet activity)
- Beta-blockers, calcium-channel blockers (theoretical — decreased levels)
- Diclofenac and other NSAIDs (monitor if combined)
Mild loose stools in first week are common and usually self-resolve. Rarely, mild skin rash (guggulu dermatitis) — discontinue and consult.
Frequently Asked Questions
Kaishore vs yograj vs triphala guggulu?
Kaishore is pitta-focused (gout, acne, hyperuricemia). Yograj is vata-focused (classical arthritis, sciatica). Triphala guggulu is simpler — mainly fistulas, hemorrhoids, general inflammation.
Is it safe with allopathic medication for uric acid?
Usually compatible, but discuss with both your rheumatologist and Chikitsak — especially if on febuxostat, allopurinol or colchicine.
How long until results?
Uric acid drops typically appear in 4–8 weeks of consistent use. Full anti-inflammatory effect at 3 months.
Can I take it long-term?
Typical protocols run 2–3 months followed by 2–4 week breaks. Continuous use beyond 6 months should be reviewed.
Does it cause weight loss?
Not directly, but guggulu formulas may gently support lipid metabolism. Triphala guggulu or medohar guggulu are more weight-management oriented.
